Review:
Overview:
The very fact that Galaxy Note is called as TabPhone says a lot about the phone. With its size in between a normal sized smartphone and a 7.0 inch tablet, it can serve both as a phone and as a tablet, giving the user a lot more flexibility and advantages as well as certain disadvantages. But this is definitely a phone packed with hoard a lot of high-end features and is definitely worth a try if you feel comfortable with the size, price and concept of the phone.
Advantages:
The main advantage of this phone, its unusually big 5.3\" size can turn out to be a disadvantage for some people with smaller hands. But the fact that it has Super
AMOLED capacitive touchscreen of WXGA resolution (800 x 1280 pixels) is definitely going to be liked by everyone. Its Super fast 3G data transfer at 21 Mbps
HSDPA and 5.76 Mbps HSUPA together with Android OS v2.3.5 and 1.4 GHz dual-core Cortex-A9 CPU, Mali-400MP GPU and 1GB of RAM is a very
efficient combination. S Pen active stylus is another attraction which can be used to do lots of things. HD quality Video recording of up to 1080p@30fps and 8
MP Autofocus camera with LED flash will make camera buffs happy. The camera has face, smile and blink detection. Internal storage of16/32GB with additional
microSD slot is pretty good. Wi-Fi support is good with Dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 b, g and n support, Wi-Fi Direct and Wi-Fi hotspot. Standard 3.5 mm audio
jack, FM radio with RDS, Stereo Bluetooth v3.0 and Accelerometer, gyroscope and proximity sensor are all part of standard equipment. 2MP secondary camera
has to be appreciated. Same is the case with Full Flash support and GPU-acceleration for the web browser. Long talk time enabled by the 2500 mAh battery is a
big plus point.
Disadvantages:
As said already in the beginning, one has to have big palms and bigger pocket to accommodate this phone. Per se it is not a disadvantage, but it is only for some.
Lack of a fully dedicated camera key and not so great plastic used in the construction of the body is not very good. Samsung has to learn a lesson or two from
Nokia in this aspect. Micro SD card is not hot swappable. But overall, this is a very good and creative step for Samsung to put it in the middle of a smartphone
and a tablet with regard to its size. It is going to create a niche for itself for sure.
